Internships

June 2019-September 2019
I had the amazing opportunity to intern this summer under Deborah Roberts at Silvae. This is a high-end clothing boutique run by her and a few other employees. She does all the designing, pattern grading, ordering, and cutting. She does a bit of sewing as well but most of the time she outsources that. I was able to learn so much about the industry through this experience and also about what it really takes to have your own company in such a competitive field. I was able to learn pattern grading, do trend research for the company, cut out pieces to be ready for production and many more valuable things. I learned a lot of techniques for cutting and sewing that I didn't know before as I helped her get ready to fulfill her fall orders. I got to work with some really high-quality fabrics and see some amazing designs. She even let me sketch some ideas for her for the next upcoming season and I included those photos below.

During my internship with Silvae, I was also complelting an internship under the direction of Dave Davidson at C for You Apparel. This company is all about sustainability and saving the planet; all of the fabric they use is organic cotton and they practice waste-reducing methods on a daily basis. This internship was such a cool experience because I got to learn how to sew on an industrial machine, copy patterns for company records, and I even got to develop patterns from sketches that he gave me. There were more employees at this company and they helped guide me in my internship and helped teach me important skills. I was able to help sew garments for production, work with patterns and sew samples and work with them to see how they needed to be adjusted. They trusted me with a lot of technical work and I was able to get very involved and hands on at this company.
